It was a dark and stormy night. The rain beat upon the panes of glass even as the wind rattled them relentlessly. The park outside the building looked more like a pond and the idea of staying inside with a warm puppy, hot tea and a good book was seeming pretty sweet at the moment.
Alex had to go home to take care of some work so it was just Isabelle and I for the evening. We’ve “Sprung” ahead today but it has made not a bit of difference with the dark, ominous, rain-streaked sky.
I almost drag our butts off to Isabelle’s agility class and then decide against it. We aren’t fish after all and, unless we sprouted some gills, it was decidedly safer to stay in, warm and dry for the night. Well, except for that walk we need to take. But it will be brief because even Isabelle doesn’t really care to walk that much in this sort of weather, even if she dons her rain suit.
Well, since we are staying in, I get out Isabelle’s brush and brush her hair while I ponder how to spend the evening. I finish up brushing her and then decide to rustle up some dinner and padded into the kitchen to put together some cheese and crackers while the water begins to boil for the pea soup I’ve decided to make. I bring the cheese and crackers to the my little table in the other room, along with a pretty wine glass that was part of a set I received as a gift, and some olives stuffed with feta cheese. This is turning out to be quite a dinner for one! I returned to the kitchen to fill Isabelle’s bowl with kibble and pop a roll in the oven to warm for myself. She stares at her bowl longingly because I’ve forgotten to ask her to do her tricks for it, and she is just too good to help herself. Funny girl! I ask her to sit, wave, down and then I tell her she’s “free” and she scrambles over to her dinner. I note to myself that she must have worked up an appetite on our brief walk earlier because often, if I ask her to do only a few tricks, she won’t think she has earned her dinner and will stay there awaiting another command. I think to myself how much I love her as she crunches on her dinner while I stir the soup.
Setting the soup to simmer I head to the other room and sit at the little table to enjoy my appetizer and queue up an episode of Standoff on Hulu. Isabelle trots after me and settles herself under the bed as I settle into my comfy red chair.
I relax and enjoy the show and am interrupted only to stir the soup and fill my bowl once it is ready. A nice way to spend a rainy evening!
After I’ve finished the soup I wonder how my brother is enjoying his Spring break and look at the pics he has posted on Facebook. He looks like he is having fun!
Time to think about gifts! No Sleuthing Sunday requests in my inbox. Hmmm…well, I do have a case of my own to think about. Alex’s birthday is coming and, not surprisingly, I want to give him something that will show him how much I care. Alex is one of those people that not only has a lot of the material things he wants, but he also tends not to hesitate to get himself things that for others might just go on their wish list. So, I either have to beat him to the punch and get hims something before he gets it for himself, or do something touching and thoughtful. Or both.
Want to know more? You’ll have to check back on Monday to see what some of my ideas are!
Happy gifting!
