Last week’s Toy Tuesday entry got me to thinking about the nature of toys and what we consider to be a toy. If you look up the definition for the word “toy” you’ll find many different meanings for this one word. Rightly so! What a tech lover is going to think of as a toy might very well differ from what a seven year old would want
if they were given a new toy and some seven year old boys
might have very different opinions than the seven year old girls
. Certain things have a wider appeal as a toy (the Wii
is enjoyed by young and old for instance) while other are much more specific to a particular hobby or interest (a cyclist might be really enthusiastic about a gadget that tracks their speed or distance
or a runner might love NIKE +
for their iPod).

This is where doing some reconnaissance on your recipient’s tastes is going to serve you well in terms of gift giving (or just relating to them, even!). This will be especially true for the “person who has everything” because for someone who wants or needs nothing, appealing to their sense of fun with something that they will consider a toy might be just what you need to crack the toughest of gift giving cases!
What odd thing do you consider a “toy” that you love? Leave me a comment and let me know!
Happy gifting!
Stopped by from Lady Bloggers. I keep thinking that I may want a Wii for myself! I hear great things about Wii fit and imagine my kids laughing at me playing a video game.
@Waisting Time – Happy Easter! Thanks for taking the time to visit.
Re; the Wii – go for it! If you imagine playing with your kids and laughing and having a good time, you probably will. It would be a gift to your family!
