You need a gift for a child but can’t possibly think of what to get them? Think back to when you were a child…I remember loving my LEGO sets.

LEGO store!

I think sometimes we overlook the classic and obvious choices for toys in favor of the new or latest big thing. Sometimes the new craze will offer some great gift ideas but we shouldn’t forgo the classics.

Children of many ages enjoy building blocks of various types – wooden blocks and stacking cups with numbers and bright colors for the very young, LEGO sets for the child as young as 18 months to as old as 15 years. Some sets are even complicated or specialized enough (collectables) for adults to enjoy!

The other great thing about giving a LEGO set as a gift is that you are encouraging the child to create, build and imagine. There are small sets, large sets, easy sets, complicated sets – something for every age, ability and gender. Another advantage to this classic is that it is something a child can as easily play with alone or with a friend.

This is they type of toy that has so many options for gift giving – you could put a set in your child’s Easter basket, there are travel-sized sets for your summer vacation, sets that are the perfect size for a stocking stuffer and big sets with their own storage make a nice present on any holiday or special occasion. LEGO is also so big now (remember when they were just colored bricks?) that there are sets that appeal to specific characters that your child may be interested in. Indiana Jones, Batman and Star Wars to name a few.

When you give this as a present, make sure that you are giving it at a time and place where the child will be able to enjoy playing with it – because they are going to want to open it and have all the little pieces out so they can play with their new toy! (Isn’t this what you wanted? :) Yes, you wanted to please them, just make sure the timing is right.)

The history of the LEGO is interesting and you should check out this link to find out more.

Happy Gifting!
