My boyfriend’s father is intelligent, kind and caring.  I see him actively seek out his wife to hug and kiss her, tell her how much he loves her, joke lovingly with her.  He loves her dearly and has the tools to be a wonderful gift giver but for their anniversary, he gave her an ice chest.  Alright, maybe she complained that their ice chest sucked or something but it does not show romance nor his happiness to have shared nearly fifty years together.

Everywhere I turn I feel like I’m confronted with ads for the Kindle and being a gift giver I’m not easily sucked into wanting to write about the next big thing because I don’t think spending a lot means that you are necessarily giving a lot. But the Kindle 2 has me so intrigued and I just want to get my hands on one in the worst way to try it out since I can already imagine the gift giving possibilities…

Great for commuters? Yep. Great for people that travel a lot? Yes, indeed (I’ve lugged my fair share of reading material in my suitcases and worried that it is going to cost me extra!). We all know how expensive college can be but what about the stress of getting to college?  In this day and age even looking at colleges is expensive (travel and gas add up!), application fees, SAT costs…

I don’t usually advise monetary gifts but, if you know a loved one who is going to be graduating this year consider helping them defray these costs.  Helping them be able to afford to apply to several colleges or paying for their SAT tests could significantly impact their future in a very positive way.  Even something as simple as offering to drive them to their SAT test offers the grad-to-be some moral support and assistance – for instance, kids who live in smaller towns often have to take the SATs at a location central to many towns so getting to their test can be problematic and your help could make all the difference.
