Just because you shelled out your hard earned cash and wrapped it up doesn’t mean it’s a gift. And something that might be a great gift on one day does not mean it is an appropriate gift for a holiday or special occasion.

For instance, a microwave or a vacuum cleaner might make a great gift for your child’s housewarming present. But giving your wife a vacuum cleaner as her big Christmas present? Not cool.

I awoke to rain. Not just a drizzle but a full on downpour. I struggled to keep my eyes open because it was the sort of day that you just don’t even want to contemplate having to crawl out of bed, let alone actually do it.

The windows rattled, bare branches were being tossed to and fro. If I wasn’t still getting over a cold and hadn’t just returned to Boston from warmer climes, the weather might have made me feel mischievous – instead, it merely served to make me feel a bit melancholy.

These are also great for people who may not have the time or money for a gym membership or space in their home for larger weights. Kid off to college?
